Meal Replacements:
A Great Strategy for Weight Management

When it comes to dieting, most people approach the process by controlling portions and counting calories. But often times, despite even the best efforts, the scale refuses to budge. Inaccuracies in counting calories and estimating portion sizes are two of the biggest obstacles to successful weight loss.
The beauty of meal replacements is that portion control is taken care of, and they're designed to provide great nutrition within a defined number of calories. On top of that, they are simple and convenient for today's busy lifestyles.
Portion control is one of the primary strategies in controlling calorie intake. Many people don't take the time to weigh and measure foods - or if they do, they usually stop after a while, thinking they can estimate portions fairly well. Portion sizes may then begin to creep up, and weight loss starts to slow down. More often than not, portion sizes will then gradually increase and the rate of weight loss slows.
And then there are the practical issues - some may not realize that the 3-ounce portion of meat specified in a meal plan is the size of a deck of cards. Or, perhaps they forget that everything counts, including any fats used in cooking or at the table, or foods that are eaten while standing at the sink or while driving in the car. A few small omissions over the course of a day or week can derail anyone's progress.
Meal replacement shakes take the guesswork out of calorie and portion control, while delivering healthy ingredients and great taste. A number of clinical studies have shown that using meal replacements as part of a weight loss plan can be more effective than counting calories with an all-food plan. In a recent study at the University of Ulm in Germany, subjects drinking two Formula 1 shakes a day (European Formula) lost more weight than people in the study who simply counted calories.
Meal replacement shakes can also be customized, too. By choosing to mix with milk or soy milk, adding a favorite fruit, or tossing in some extra protein powder, a personalized meal can be had in minutes. Convenient, delicious, healthy, portion controlled meals – what more could a dieter ask for? Have A Look At These Weight Loss Programmes...

Weight Loss: Tips from Dr. David Heber

DAVID HEBER, M.D., P.H.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.N. CHAIRMAN OF THE HERBALIFE MEDICAL AND SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARDS

Q: How does protein help someone lose fat tissue instead of lean tissue?
A: By eating enough protein to maintain your lean tissue while losing fat, you keep your metabolism revved up. Every pound of lean tissue burns 14 calories per day—compared to about three calories burned for each pound of fat per day. So keeping the lean and losing the fat helps you burn more calories at rest. This is also called the resting metabolic rate, or metabolism for short.
Q: How does metabolism influence weight loss?
A: Whenever you eat more calories than you burn through exercise and through your metabolism at rest, you will store those extra calories as fat. So having a higher metabolism can help you maintain your weight by balancing the calories in and the calories out. Exercises that strengthen your muscles will improve your ability to burn calories while at rest.
Q: What are the benefits of plant-based protein, or soy?
A: Soy protein naturally has a different composition than animal proteins, which makes it healthier for your blood vessels, bones and kidneys. Soy protein also has isoflavones, which, as found in Formula 1, has an FDA-approved heart-health claim. That’s why its label has a heart on it.

Green Tea - The Healthy Drink
By Dr. Tony Vendryes
Tea is the most widely consumed beverage on earth and has an over 4000 year history as a health promoting drink. The tea plant technically known as Camellia sinensis produces green tea, black tea and oolong tea. The difference in the type of tea is a result of the different ways the tea leaves are processed after harvesting them. The majority of the tea currently available in Jamaica and in the world is black tea.
Although all these three varieties of tea have health benefits, green tea is far superior to the others in this regard. Medical research has confirmed what the Chinese have been saying for centuries: that green tea contains special health preserving and revitalising power.
INGREDIENTS OF GREEN TEA
Antioxidants - Green tea contains a group of compounds called polyphenols. They are powerful antioxidants which are responsible for the therapeutic properties of green tea. One of these substances, called EGCG for short, is 200 times more powerful as an antioxidant than vitamin E. Green tea contains much more antioxidants than black tea.
CAFFEINE
Caffeine is a stimulant which is present in green tea in much smaller amounts than in black tea or coffee. In small amounts, can be an excellent energy enhancer, but it is best to limit one's intake, as excess caffeine consumption may be unhealthy.

COMPARISON CHART OF CAFFEINE CONTENT OF COMMON

Beverage /1 serving Caffeine content mg. per serve
Coffee (brewed) 60-160
Coffee (instant) 30-120
Coffee (decaffeinated) 1-5
Soft drinks 40 - 70
Black tea 20-90
Green tea 6-30
Hot chocolate 2 - 20

OTHERS
Green tea contains over 500 aromatic oils as well as small amounts of several vitamins and minerals.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE - Green tea lowers the "bad" cholesterol while increasing the "good" cholesterol. It reduces blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes and acts as a blood thinner.
CANCER - In animal experiments, green tea extract prevented cancer of the lung, liver, prostate, skin, oesophagus and colon. Human studies suggest that drinking two or more cups of green tea a day reduced the overall risk of cancer by ten percent.
LONGEVITY  Studies conducted on Japanese women showed that greater than average tea drinkers had a lower mortality rate than other women. Researchers believe this to be due to a stimulating effect of tea on the immune system.
ORAL HEALTH  Research shows that drinking green tea protects the teeth and gums from disease. The polyphenols in tea inhibits the growth of cavity forming bacteria.
So, consider making green tea your favorite drink. I personally recommend a convenient instant green tea herbal concentrate, (Herbalifes Shapeworks – Instant Herbalife Beverage) which can be used hot or cold and also contains additional health promoting herbs. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Herbalife's ShapeWorks Instant Herbal Beverage) is a powerful  green tea with  all its benefits
HERBAL BEVERAGE!

Usage:
Take 1/2 to 1 tsp
2 – 4 times a day.
Mix it with either hot water (you can add sugar, honey etc) or juice.  Enjoy!!
